To be guaranteed that we can fit you in our schedule we recommend you book
your diving course at least ten days in advance.
Before beginning the PADI Rescue Diver course, you must be licensed in EFR (Emergency First Response). EFR includes adult CPR and first-aid procedures. Participants in the PADI Rescue Diver
course must have a basic understanding of victim resuscitation methods, as they will be used heavily
in the course. The EFR course is available on Saipan for those wishing to complete their EFR
certification here. (For those holding a NON-EXPIRED EFR license, this part of the course is not needed.)
The PADI Rescue Diver course requires that the student read and understand the PADI Rescue Diver manual. You will be expected to thoroughly review the manual and complete Knowledge Reviews at
the end of each chapter. At the end of the course there is a written exam.
Your course will also consist of several pool sessions. During the pool sessions you will learn skills
that will help you assess a rescue situation and execute a rescue plan. These sessions are extremely important, as you will learn not only how to help a victim, but also how to keep yourself safe during
a rescue.
You will learn how to approach and help tired, panicked, unresponsive, and unconscious divers at the surface of the water. You will also learn how to deal with tired, panicked, unconscious, and missing
divers underwater. Not only that, but you will master the skills needed for safely and quickly getting a
victim out of the water. To do this, you will need to utilize your EFR skills and also learn how to use emergency oxygen tanks.
Upon completion of your confined water/ pool training sessions, you will have to prove your mastery
of those skills in 5 rescue scenarios in the open ocean. The scenarios are intended to be life-like and
will be set up by your instructor. It is up to you to assess the scenario, decide on an action plan, and
carry out that plan to the best of your ability.
The PADI Rescue Diver course in not easy, but the skills, knowledge, and confidence you will gain
are more than worth the challenge!
Important:
This course draws heavily on the skills and training you completed in the PADI Open Water and
Advanced Open Water courses. It is also a physically demanding course. Therefore, before participating please be sure that you review and are comfortable with your Open Water and Advanced Open Water knowledge and skills. It is also highly suggested that you be in good physical shape. |
